Fire crews continue to battle blaze near Armenian village overnight
Some 150 firefighters continued to battle the wildfire erupted at the forest nearby Byurakan village of Armenia’s Aragatsotn Province overnight Sept. 5, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) reports.
As of 6am Tuesday, a reconnaissance flight was operated with a helicopter from the Ministry of Defense to detect the major spots of the wildfire and the ways it may spread. There are roads and passages in the area that facilitate the firefighting efforts.
The fire does not pose threat to the nearby settlements, the source added.
Minister of Emergency Situations Davidt Tonoyan left for the scene at 11pm on Monday.
To remind, on September 3, at 3:26 pm, Armenia’s MES received an alert, saying a massive fire had broken out at the forest near the village of Byurakan in Armenia’s Aragatzotn Province. According to the initial data, the blazes have consumed 20 hectares of the forest land.
