Armenia should immediately leave the EAEU, opposition lawmaker insists
Yelq (Exit) opposition political fraction at Armenian parliament conducted on Friday consultation and worked out a draft decision calling on Armenia to leave the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The document with adjacent explanation notes will be officially put into circulation on September 11. In an interview with Panorama.am, Yelq fraction member Mane Tandilyan insisted they opposed Armenia’s membership to the economic union from the first day.
“The time and developments have revealed the reasons Armenia should leave the union as soon as possible. The reason is Armenia makes no benefits out of the union in both economic and political terms. We think no mutually beneficial cooperation was ever established between the country and the union. And we envisaged that from the inception. The April war as well as the current economic situation of the country showed that arguments brought forward to lobby the membership to the union were at least void,” the opposition lawmaker stressed.
In Tandilyan’s words, the initiative worked out by the fraction is well-justified with enough evidence speaking of the union’s unsustainability.
“We want Armenia to get out of an inviable, non-operating, and senseless structure, instead, seek a developing vision and prospects,” stressed the lawmaker, adding the political bloc relies on the people that would support and stand by the initiative.
