Aronian draws in the first game of the 1/8 round at World Chess Cup
First games of the 1/8 round of the FIDE World Chess Cup 2017 were played in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Tuesday. As the National Olympic Committee reported, Armenia GM Levon Aronian played draw with Daniil Dubov of Russia in the first game. The Armenian will start with whites in the second game scheduled for today.
To note, the FIDE World Cup is a 128-player knockout with a $1,280,000 prize fund that qualifies two players for the Candidates tournament next year which decides who will be Magnus Carlsen’s next challenger.
