Exhibition dedicated to Ayvazovsky’s 200th birth anniversary opened at National Gallery of Armenia
An exhibition entitled “Hovhannes Aivazovsky. Creation” was opened at the National Gallery of Armenia (NGA) on Thursday, embracing the great Armenian painter’s artistic path based on the works preserved in the NGA’s painting and graphic collections and in various archives.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan, FM Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Science and Education Levon Mkrtchyan, Ambassador Mikhail Shvidkoy, Russian Federation (RF) President's special representative on cultural cooperation and RF MFA special envoy, other high-ranking officials.
The exhibition for the first time displays the prominent painting “Chaos. Creation of the World” from the collection of the Mekhitarist Congregation in Venice.
The exhibition will be open until January 18, 2018.
To note, this year marks the 200th birth anniversary of the world-famous seascape painter Hovhannes Aivazovsky. The anniversary is included in UNESCO's list of memorable dates in 2017.
Apart from the exhibition, an international conference “Borders of Marine Art” dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of Hovhannes Aivazovsky will be held in the fresco hall of the National Gallery of Armenia on September 15-16.
