Ayvazovsky is mostly known as seascape painter, yet his art is miscellaneous, Andreas Roubian says
“The time has come for the world to recognize Hovhannes Ayvazovsky not only as a great seascape painter but also a renowned artist who recorded great achievements in art spheres,” one of largest collectors of Ayvazovsky’s works, researcher from the U.S. Andreas Roubian told reporters on Friday.
Roubian is attending the international conference “Borders of Marine Art” dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of Hovhannes Aivazovsky which is underway in the fresco hall of the National Gallery of Armenia on September 15-16.
In his words, although the painter is known to the world as one of the greatest masters of marine art, his works are miscellaneous. “He has authored some genius paintings, yet few know about them and are familiar with his huge contribution to other art branches. We have much to do in this direction,” Roubian said, expressing a desire to popularize Ayvazovky’s art in Europe and the U.S. with doubled efforts.
“The art is a great weapon in the modern world, it represents a strength far beyond being just a painting. We should present Armenian geniuses to the world to increase esteem toward the Armenians and their weight in the world,” Roubian said.
To note, the conference is attended by Armenian and foreign experts, specialists, art critics, art collectors, publishers from Theodosia, Moscow and St. Petersburg largest museums, cultural centers.
Among the guests of the conference are Director of the Ayvazovsky Museum in Theodosia Tatyana Gayduk, the Head of the section of paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries at the State Tretyakov Gallery Galina Churak, Director of the State Russian Museum Vladimir Gusev, others.
Among foreign guests are art critic, longtime researcher of Aivazovsky’s creativity and author of number of books and articles Ivan Samarin from London.
