Diaspora should focus more on Artsakh-related issues, deputy FM says
The Diaspora should begin focusing more on all the issues related to Artsakh, Armenian deputy foreign minister Shavarsh Kocharyan told the reporters on Monday, during the 6th Pan-Armenian Armenia-Diaspora Conference.
According to the official, continuing its efforts aimed at the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the Diaspora should at the same time stay more focused on the Karabakh-related issues regarding both the economic, political sectors and the international recognition of Artsakh.
Meantime, the official highlighted the unacceptability to contrast the two issues with each other. “We should not state that the Artsakh [conflict] settlement is more important that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. They should not be contrasted with each other. In general, today Armenia has become a pioneer in terms of preventing genocides. This should continue, meantime pushing forward all those issues related to the Artsakh Republic,” Mr. Kocharyan underscored.
The deputy FM highlighted the key role of the Armenian Diaspora in shaping views of certain international organizations.
“The Diaspora’s role is simply invaluable in this respect. When it comes to the Genocide recognition efforts, we all are well aware that the Diaspora has the greatest share in it,” he said.
Reflecting on the settlement of the Artsakh conflict, FM Kocharyan pointed to Azerbaijan’s efforts to isolate Karabakh, noting that the Diaspora takes every effort to break that isolation.
