Armenia’s Aronian played draw in the first game of the World Cup 2017 semi-finals
The first game of the semi-finals of the FIDE World Chess Cup 2017 was played on Tuesday in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Armenian GM Levon Aronian played draw with Michel Lagrave of France, the National Olympic Committee reports. In the second game slated for tomorrow Aronian will play with blacks, the source said.
To note, the FIDE World Cup is a 128-player knockout with a $1,280,000 prize fund that qualifies two players for the Candidates tournament next year which decides who will be Magnus Carlsen’s next challenger.
