Nothing new about the elements over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement have been voiced. Those elements are based on the so-called Madrid Principles, and no need to draw far-reaching conclusions, Artsakh FM Karen Mirzoyan told reporters on Thursday at the Erablur Pantheon. FM Mirzoyan’s remarks came in request to comment on the recent statement of Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian, speaking of the idea of “return of territories,” that stirred a controversy. “We are talking about those territories whose return will not endanger the resolution of the conflict and the security [of Artsakh] and will not threaten the outcome of the process,” Nalbandian was quoted as responding to a question on the sidelines of the Armenia-Diaspora Pan-Armenian conference.

In Mirzoyan’s words, the driver for those speculations has been Artsakh absence from the negotiation table for a long time.

“The Artsakh return to the table of negotiations will enable to work on proposals and settlement models that would be based on realities to fully secure the security of Artsakh and its people,” FM Mirzoyan stressed.

Asked what territories would not endanger Artsakh security Nalbandian spoke of, Mirzoyan replied: “The current security system of Artsakh is based on territories which are inseparable part of the Artsakh Republic. Any change that would endanger the security of Artsakh and its people is definitely unacceptable. Our main task is to ensure Artsakh security. While working out mechanisms and programs of the security system we mean the entire territory of the current Artsakh Republic.”
