Armenian chess player Arman Mikaelyan closer to gaining GM title
Round 3 of Yerevan Open international chess tournament has been played at Chess Academy of Armenia, with seven chess players, including three representatives of Armenia, gaining 100% score.
From the Armenian team, Karen Grigoryan (1st place with additional accessories), Arman Mikaelyan (2nd place) and Artashes Minasian (4th place) celebrated their third victories in the third round. IM Arman Mikaelyan outplayed Ukrainian chess grandmaster Vladimir Onischuk, who has the highest FIDE rating in the tournament (2638).
Currently Arman Mikaelyan’s rating stands at 2474. Earlier the Armenian player fulfilled the grandmaster norm. He will be granted the GM title when reaching a minimum rating of 2500 in the FIDE rating system.
