Armenia, EU look to sign Common Aviation Area Agreement in the coming future – Civil Aviation Department
The text of the agreement worked out in the course of negotiations on establishing a comprehensive air transport agreement between Armenia and the EU is being finalized, the Chairman of the government-affiliated General Department of Civil Aviation Sergey Avetisyan told reporters on Friday during a press conference.
To note, the first session of the working group on the negotiations between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union on the Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement (Common Aviation Area between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union) was held in February this year.
“The document has been submitted to our European colleagues, and I think we will proceed with signing the document once we receive their feedback and probably arrange some technical issues,” Avetisyan stressed.
To remind, in December 2016 the European Council mandated the EU Commission to start negotiations on a comprehensive air transport agreement with Armenia. The decision said the comprehensive EU-level aviation agreements aim to increase Europe's international connectivity, ensure a high-quality service and more choice for the passengers, and boost the international competitiveness of the EU's aviation industry.
The Chairman of the Civil Aviation Department added, talks are underway with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on drafting a roadmap aimed at obtaining equal market access for route among the member states within the union and market liberalization.
