Analysis: Iran sees its missile program as a red line that the country will not cross
“Iran has unveiled a new ballistic missile with range of 2,000 km,” Armen Israelyan, Yerevan-based expert on Iranian studies, said in a Facebook post, adding the unveiling came during a military parade in Tehran following President Hassan Rouhani’s return from New York.
The new ballistic missile with range of 2,000 km, called ‘Khorramshahr’, is capable of carrying several warheads.
The head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ aerospace division, Amirali Hajizadeh, informed that the new ballistic missile will soon replenish the arsenal of the country’s armed forces.
The Armenian expert noted that the U.S. has often attempted to involve the issue of the Iranian missile program in nuclear talks. However, after reaching the nuclear deal, Iran has repeatedly announced that its ballistic missile program is a red line that Tehran is not going to cross to make concessions, especially when the nuclear deal has nothing to do with the exploitation of Iranian missile systems.
