Artsakh to host pomegranate festival in late October
The Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) town of Martuni will host a pomegranate festival on 29 October at the initiative of Martuni Municipality and with the financial support by philanthropist Gastello Mkrtchyan, an Artsakh official said.
In an interview with Artsakhpress news agency, Martuni Mayor Mher Khachatryan said the festival program features pomegranate sales, as well as presentation and sale of pomegranate molasses, wine and juice.
A series of cultural events, including a concert, folk dances and games, exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts are also scheduled to be held during the festival.
The Karabakh official noted the festival is aimed at encouraging the pomegranate farmers to sell their harvest, as well as attracting more tourists to the region. “We have decided to hold such a festival at the end of October every year, when the pomegranate ripens. We will try to establish a platform that enables pomegranate farmers and processors to organize the sale of their products, to exchange experience, as well as to advertise the products,” the mayor said, adding the deadline for the applications is set on 15 October.
Apart from the pomegranate sales, an Artsakh food fair will also be held in the town, mainly demonstrating the products from the rural communities of the region.
