The delegation led by Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly (NA) Ara Babloyan, being in Georgia on an official visit, met with the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili on 25 September, the press service of the Parliament reported. 

During the meeting, numerous issues related to different spheres of the Armenian-Georgian cooperation were discussed. Ara Babloyan, presenting the directions of the Armenian-Georgian parliamentary works to the President of Georgia, particularly noted that the Armenia-Georgia Friendship Group has been formed in the Armenian Parliament, led by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. The Armenian official stated the Parliament is ready to do its best within its powers for further deepening the Armenian-Georgian relations.

Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) conflict settlement, Mr. Babloyan particularly noted: “Armenia greatly evaluates the role of Georgia in the South Caucasus regional security issues and expects the balanced position of Georgia in the Karabakh conflict settlement process. To us, there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement of the NK conflict. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, being an issue of human rights, can be solved only through Artsakh people’s free self-determination.”

The official underscored that the arms race unleashed by Azerbaijan poses a serious threat to all countries of the region.

Thanking the Republic of Armenia for supporting the Georgian people in tackling the wildfires erupted in Georgia, President Giorgi Margvelashvili expressed regret that similar disasters had also stricken Armenia.

Speaking about the Georgian-Armenian diplomatic relations, the President of Georgia particularly stated that already for 25 years the progress is obvious in the relations of the two countries, and Georgia is always ready to discuss with Armenia any issue and further enhance the relations of the two countries in all spheres.

The President of Georgia expressed satisfaction with the development of the parliamentary diplomatic cooperation existing between the legislative bodies of Armenia and Georgia.

Touching upon the NK conflict, the President of Georgia particularly noted: “Our brotherly heart hurts for the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict. One thing is for sure: similar conflicts can be destructive for the small nations. We pray for the peace in the region.”

On the same day, the Armenian delegation held a meeting with Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilya II.
