Aronian says ‘honoured’ to be compared to World Champion Tigran Petrosyan
Armenian GM Levon Aronian, the winner of the World Cup 2017, said he is honoured to be compared to Soviet Armenian Grandmaster and World Chess Champion from 1963 to 1969 Tigran Petrosyan.
“I can tell on my side I have always looked for ways to look like him yet I have failed. Petrosyan was a genius chess player. Our styles are different, I am more hot-tempered that has always hampered me,” Aronian noted.
During the press conference on Thursday Aronian praised his Ariana for the encouragement and the team assistance that helped him much in winning the title.
To remind, Levon Aronian won on Wednesday the 2017 FIDE (International Chess Federation) World Chess Cup in Georgia after defeating in two tie-breakers Chinese Grandmaster Ding Liren. The winner of the World Chess Cup and his runner-up, who are Armenia’s Aronian and China’s Ding Liren respectively, have been now granted places in the 2018 FIDE Candidates Tournament in Berlin on March 10-28, 2018.
