Intensive year in terms of activation of military-diplomatic ties, says defense minister
“The activation of military-diplomatic ties has been one of main directions this year which has been quite intensive,” Armenia’s Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan stated at a press conference on Monday.
The minister noted, he paid an official visit to Russia in the past year – the first at a ministerial level over the past years. Official visits were paid to Georgia, Iran, with important issues under consideration in regard to the supply of the Armed Forces, transits, partnership. The minister reminded also of his official visits to Greece, Cyprus, and China.
A range of crucial agreements were obtained during those visits, which represent vital tool to ensure the frequency of Armenia’s military-diplomatic ties.
At a request to comment specifically on the result of the visit to China and prospects of arms purchase from the Poole’s Republic, the minster said: “We had no discussions on arms supply in China, as the consultations and discussions were aimed at developing programs of military-political dialogue and partnership. The Armed Forces of Armenia has long possessed types of weapons imported from China that have been displayed at military parades. As I used to stress on numerous occasions we remain open for any dialogue,” added Sargsyan.
The minister went on saying speculations on arms purchase and acquisition of new weaponry are pointless as they complicate the process [of acquisition], secondly, reveal one’s prospective plans and allow the adversary to take countermeasures.
“I am prone to demonstrating weapons at military parades,” Minister Sargsyan concluded.
