The Armenia National Philharmonic Orchestra jointly with the Embassy of Germany to Armenia present the world premiere of ‘Piano Battle’ as part of the Yerevan 11th International Music Festival.

The concert scheduled for Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall on 6 October features performances by pianists Andreas Kern and Paul Cibis, the Philharmonic Orchestra reported.

“Piano Battle”, together with the Armenia National Philharmonic Orchestra and their conductor Eduard Topchjan, will present the world premiere of the "PIANO BATTLE meets ORCHESTRA".

The concert will also symbolize the grand finale of the Week of German Language in Armenia.

“In their 3rd live show concept, pianists Andreas Kern and Paul Cibis make an orchestra part of their battle. The various instrumental groups of the orchestra become the “weapons” which will be chosen and added to the scene with rounds. At some point the two protagonists even try to conduct the band, which has to fail - and so both the orchestra and the audience welcome the conductor on stage. As much as the orchestra is actively involved, the verdict of the battle will still be spoken by the audience. Rachmaninov vs. Chopin, Mozart vs. Wagner, Beethoven vs. Saint-Saens, and the grand finale makes a Star Wars concerto: It’s entertaining, educational and still serious music making – when PIANO BATTLE meets ORCHESTRA,” reads the description of the event.

To note, the Yerevan 11th International Music Festival kicked off in capital Yerevan on 11 September. The festival is held under the High Patronage of the First Lady of Armenia Mrs. Rita Sargsyan and is supported by the Armenian Ministry of Culture. The artistic directors of the festival are Eduard Topchjan and Alexander Chaushian.

The festival will run until 17 October.
