European Team Chess Championship to kick off in Greece on 28 Oct.
The European Team Chess Championship is scheduled for Crete Island, Greece from 28 October until 6 November, with the participation of the Armenian men’s and women’s teams.
The Armenian men’s chess team includes Levon Aronian, Sergei Movsesian, Gabriel Sargsyan, Hrant Melkumyan and Hovhannes Gabuzyan (coach, Arshak Petrosyan), the National Olympic Committee reported. The men’s tournament features 39 teams.
There are 32 teams taking part in women’s championship. The members of the Armenian chess team are Elina Danielyan, Lilit Mkrtchyan, Lilit Galoyan, Maria Kursova and Maria Gevorgyan (coach, Artur Chibukhchyan).
The European Team Championship shall be played according to the Swiss System in 9 rounds, with one open section and one section for the women’s teams, each considered as separate competitions. According to ECU and FIDE rules, the time control will be 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30 seconds increment for every move played starting from the move one.
Each team has the right to have four main players and one reserve player.
