USAID marks the 25th anniversary of partnership with Armenia
“25 years ago the USAID first opened in Yerevan with a long-term goal of partnering with the Armenian people and the Armenian government as you transition into a sovereign and independent nation,“ the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills stated in his remarks at the event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the USAID mission in Armenia.
The Ambassador said as the first desk officer in the U.S. State Department, first diplomat in Washington focused day by day on the new independent Republic of Armenia he saw at least from a distance how difficult it was during those dark years when the first USAID officers arrived Armenia.
“And Now I can see how Armenia has made the progress in developing economy, democratic institutions, media and civil society. The progress was made because of the USAID 1 billion USD provided by the American people and the work done side by side with the Armenian partners,” stressed the Ambassador.
“Armenia is living its own development after 25 years while the USAID is supporting the initiatives,” Richard Mills add.
To note, Armenian Pm Karen Karapetyan, members of the cabinet and representatives of the civil society are present at the event.
