Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan to meet in Geneva next week – official
President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev will meet in Geneva next week, an Armenian parliamentarian said Thursday.
The meeting will be held at the initiative of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, Vice President of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction Armen Ashotyan told reporters following the RPA Executive Body session on 12 October.
“You all know Armenia’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as recently voiced by the president of Armenia once again from the UN tribunal. In spite of the latest statements by the top Azerbaijani officials, Armenia’s president will take part in that meeting,” Ashotyan said.
The Armenian official noted that the success in the negotiation process requires building trustful and save environment.
“The talks are currently underway, however a more important issue is to restore the favourable environment at this stage,” he noted, highlighting Armenia has always been constructive in terms of its contribution to the Karabakh peace talks, adhering to the Minsk Group format.
