Food Safety Service says exhaustive justifications presented to Rosselkhoznadzor
The Armenian State Service for Food Safety has not received any notices or clarifications from Rosselkhoznadzor on changes of food marking requirements, press secretary at the Service Nvard Arakelyan told Panorama.am, when asked to comment on the latest decision of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control.
To remind, earlier Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control, severed the control on import of vegetables, namely tomato from number of countries, including Armenia. The regulator explained its decision with the growth of import volumes, suspecting certain companies of states in question in attempts to import products prohibited in the territory of Russia. To remind, Russia has removed almost all restrictions on agricultural imports from Turkey but the tomato ban still remains in place.
“Fruit and vegetable from Armenia are imported according to EEU technical regulations as envisaged in the EEU Council Decision 157 with respective food marking requirements the name of the product on the packages, its origin, as well information on importer and re-importer,” said Arakelyan.
As to tomato import, Navasardyan pointed to the exhaustive clarifications about the capacity and import volumes of the vegetable cultivated in Armenia’s greenhouses provided during the visit of Russian food safety watchdog representatives to Armenia in March.
