Azerbaijan promotes Armenophobia at state level, deputy parliament speaker says
Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly (NA), the Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the Armenian National Assembly and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Eduard Sharmazanov met with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee Boleslav Pirshtuk on the sidelines of his working visit to Saint Petersburg.
The NA Permanent Representative to the CIS IPA Hayk Chilingaryan attended the meeting, the parliament’s press service reported.
During the meeting the sides highlighted the coordinated work of the parliamentarians of the CSTO Member States on the international platforms. In this context, Eduard Sharmazanov particularly noted: “The parliamentarians of the CSTO Member States should support each other on the international platforms and not make statements, which do not stem from the CSTO official position. It is inadmissible that the representatives of the CSTO Member State make statements contradicting the ally,”
The interlocutors also attached importance to the peaceful settlement of the conflicts in the CSTO and the CIS region. In this context, the Armenian Deputy Speaker underlined: “The issue of Artsakh cannot have a military solution. Contrary to Azerbaijani claims, we reaffirm that Azerbaijan with its unconstructive policy is a real threat to the regional security. The CSTO deputies should condemn Azerbaijan, the actions of which claim lives.”
He also added that Azerbaijan promotes Armenophobia at the state level.
Issues concerning the organization of the upcoming sitting of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the Parliaments of Armenia and Belarus were also touched upon.
