Final success against IS militants in Syria a matter of time – expert
Yesterday, late in the evening, some Arabic media outlets reported about the completion of the operations to liberate the Syrian city of Raqqa from the Islamic State militants, which was the terror group’s last stronghold in Syria, Armen Petrosyan, an expert on Arabic studies said in a Facebook post.
The expert reminds the offensive to retake the city was initiated by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters.
“According to the information obtained so far, the city is in a poor state following the heated battles. It will take a long time to clean the city and to restore its infrastructures.
The IS militant group has been cornered into a pocket of territory in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor, where they are already facing pressure from the Syrian troops supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces. In this direction as well the final military success [against the IS] is already a matter of time,” Armen Petrosyan wrote.
