The Armenia-EU agreement to ensure continuity in partnership - Natalia Voutova
The Council of Europe in Armenian and the European Union presented on Tuesday the results of projects in the judicial reform, law-enforcement bodies and the education sector implemented in Armenia.
The total budget of the four projects implemented in the scope of “Partnership for Good Governance” totaled 2.4 million euros, the speaker informed.
The Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Natalia Voutova told reporters the scope of the projects is focused on improving electoral processes in the country, combatting ill-treatment and impunity, strengthening healthcare and human rights protection in Armenian prisons, supporting judicial reform as well as fighting corruption in higher education in Armenia.
As Voutova informed the projects will continue next year, at the same expressing hope the signing of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement will contribute to continuity of the cooperation.
The Head of Co-operation Section of the European Union Delegation to Armenia Hoa-Binh Adjemian, on his part, added the European Union has kept the healthcare and human rights protection in Armenian prisons under spotlight as well as the issue of constructing new penitentiaries. “Added to this, the EU consistent support to fighting corruption,” Hoa-Binh Adjemian said.
The Director of the European Department at Armenia’s ministry of foreign affairs Gagik Ghalatchian stressed Armenian public institutions highly value the EU programmes which demonstrate tangible results and contribute to the application of the internationally proved experience in the country. Ghalatchian expressed hope the efficient cooperation will continue in the future.
