Masoud Barzani likely to step down as Iraqi Kurdistan President, Armenian expert says
The media outlets operating under Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the representatives of which actively cover the current developments in Iraqi Kurdistan, report that Masoud Barzani is likely to step down as Iraqi Kurdistan President, handing over the post to Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, Armen Israyelyan, an Armenian expert on Iranian studies, said in a Facebook post.
“Barzani is expected to release a statement on Tuesday following the crisis in Kirkuk.
Judging by Iran’s attitude towards Masoud Barzani, the latter has violated the deal with Iran (regarding both the fight against the IS and the independence referendum), due to which, as Iranians put it, the Kurdish politician contributing to the creation of a ‘second Israel’ is punished through Kirkuk’s fall,” he detailed.
