President Sargsyan: Armenia attaches great importance to deepening relations with the EU
President Serzh Sargsyan on Friday received Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Witold Waszczykowski. Welcoming the guest, the President of Armenia said to be happy to host him in a jubilee year as the 650th anniversary of establishment of the Armenian community in Poland and the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Poland was being celebrated.
Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the friendly Polish people and the Polish authorities for caring attitude towards a portion of the Armenian people and Armenia’s cultural heritage, the press service of the President’s Office reported.
The President highly appreciated the warm message issued by President of Poland Andrzej Duda on the 650th anniversary of establishment of the Armenian community and the resolution passed yesterday in the Polish Senate. Serzh Sargsyan underscored Armenia’s willingness to deepen relationship with Poland both in bilateral format and as part of cooperation with the European Union.
Thankful for the warm welcome, Foreign Minister Waszczykowski evoked the meeting and the effective discussion held between the Presidents of Armenia and Poland in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly on September 19. Witold Waszczykowski introduced the purpose of his visit and the outcome of today’s talks with his Armenian counterpart.
In addition to Armenian-Polish bilateral relations, the interlocutors touched upon the prospects of EU-Armenia cooperation, the forthcoming Brussels Summit and Armenia’s expectations from it. Noting that our country attaches great importance to deepening relations with the European Union, the President of Armenia stressed that the cooperation with the EU has resulted in serious reforms implemented in Armenia, with tangible progress recorded in EU-Armenia relations over the past few years. Serzh Sargsyan highlighted Poland’s role in the strengthening of EU-Armenia relations in the frame of the Eastern Partnership Program.
During the meeting, the interlocutors touched upon the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
