EU ready to sign new agreement with Armenia, political analyst says
An Armenian political analyst gave his strong assurances about the signing of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the European Union and Armenia on Monday.
“Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, said the EU is ready to sign this document on the sidelines of the Brussels summit in response to my question during EaP countries’ Civil Society Forum in Tallinn,” Stepan Grigoryan, Chairman of the Analytical Centre on Globalisation and Regional Cooperation, told a news conference in Yerevan.
The political analyst said his questionnaire pointed out a series of options being discussed in Armenia over the EU-Armenia agreement, namely whether it will be signed or not and the possible reasons behind non-signing of the deal.
“He gave a comprehensive, clear and detailed replay, saying the EU is ready, it will sign the deal. He also noted the Armenia-EU agreement is not to the detriment of a third state and it cannot be influenced by third states. He also noted Armenia can show that it can sign a serious cooperation deal with the EU while being a EAEU member state,” Mr. Grigoryan highlighted.
