Harp, soprano and mezzo-soprano: combination that has never been presented in Armenia
An exceptional concert will be held at Komitas Chamber Music House in Yerevan, Armenia, on 1 November. The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Voice and Harp Trio, which is made up of soprano Gillian Zammit, mezzo-soprano Clare Ghigo and harpist Britt Arend will perform for the Armenian audience on the sidelines of the 5th Khachaturian International Festival.
This combination of harp, soprano and mezzo-soprano has never been presented in Armenia. During the concert the trio will perform compositions by Vincenzo Bellini, Gabriel Faure, Reynaldo Hahn, Claude Debussy, Gioachino Rossini and other famous composers.
Mezzo-soprano Clare Ghigo told Panorama.am that four years ago two sopranos, harpist and flutist performed for the first time during a concert. “Of course the concert was amazing, but we came to the conclusion that it is very difficult to find pieces composed for harp, flute and singers. So we decided to perform without flute. I understand that this is an unusual ensemble. But we enjoy, change, add something! Of course, the project is small, but it is developing,” the mezzo-soprano said.
The project was presented in Malta for the first time, then in Germany, France, and now the unique trio is in Yerevan. The trio is very happy to be here.
Clare Ghigo noted that there weren’t compositions written for this ensemble, but a Maltese composer started to write for them. The compositions presented by the trio are mostly arrangements.
The mezzo-soprano admitted that they like to present innovations to the audience. And the audience enjoys their performances.
Yerevan is hosting the 5th Khachaturian International Festival, which is held under the high patronage of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. It is implemented thanks to the joint efforts of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia (General Partner of the Orchestra – VivaCell-MTS), with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the “Khachaturian” Foundation and European Foundation for Support of Culture.
