Sharp rise in number of children with psoriasis recorded in Armenia, doctor says
The number of children suffering from psoriasis have sharply increased in Armenia, the doctors alert.
“The first peak period of psoriasis is considered 14-25 years old, with the second peak period covering 50-60 years of age. However, a sharp rise [of the disease] is observed among the 0-10 age group conditioned with ecological conditions, unhealthy food and stress. The upward trends continue, with even the newborns diagnosed with the disease,” Gevorg Shakaryan, Director of the Dermatology Department of the health ministry's Center of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases, told a news conference on Friday.
Director of the same center, Michael Sahakyan in his turn noted psoriasis affects over 125 million people around the world. Two-three percent of the Armenian population also suffer from that disease, with the patients seeking a treatment at the Center of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases being in a sever condition.
According to Mr. Sahakyan, this is the reason why they have announced public open doors for the medical center, which received increased number of people within two days (20 people applied).
“Unfortunately the disease is incurable, but it does not mean it cannot be controlled. We urge everyone to apply to the center which has all the conditions to offer free consultation of the priories patients,” Sahakyan added.
In his words, the condition of people is getting worse as a result of self-treatment and use of advertised remedies.
“This is the kind of disease which can cause a disability,” he warned.
Gevorg Shakaryan added a total of 600-700 patients having psoriasis receive inpatient treatment in Armenia annually.
