Prime minister: The issue of food safety enhancement is under a special spotlight
Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on Wednesday unveiled the government’s plan to raise Armenia’s agricultural productivity, adding the country has all the necessary preconditions for it.
In his remarks addressed at the opening of ArmAgroForum conference in Yerevan, Armenia, the PM highlighted the need to introduce modern technologies, develop high value-added agriculture, replace the imports and expand the geography and volumes of exports, as well as to improve the conditions for entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector as necessary measures to that end.
“The issue of food safety enhancement is under a special spotlight. Objectively assessing our current situation we have to state that on the way to developing agriculture, we face many problems that need to be addressed: sustainable supply of irrigation water, zoning, non-cultivated land areas, lack of productivity and efficiency. The solution of these problems calls for consistent effort,” Mr. Karapetyan stated.
According to the government’s press service, the prime minister pointed out agriculture is one of the most important branches of our economy, which provides employment, promotes income generation and enhancement of living standards in rural areas, export growth and macroeconomic stability.
Karen Karapetyan underscored Armenia will have a different agriculture year by year.
“I am convinced that we have great potential in this sector; we just have to make some changes and reconsider the standard approaches. We shall face no marketing problems if we produce the right goods,” he highlighted.
