Birth anniversaries of Komitas and Hovhannes Tumanyan included in UNESCO calendar
The 39th Session of the UNESCO General Conference held in Paris, France has decided to include the anniversaries of Komitas and Hovhannes Tumanyan in the UNESCO calendar of renowned people and major events of 2018-2019.
According to the foreign ministry’s press service, the proposals for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Soghomon Soghomonian, known as Komitas Vardapet (1869-1935), composer, ethnomusicologist, researcher and singer (submitted by Armenia with the support of France and Germany), and 150th anniversary of the birth of Hovhannes Tumanyan (1869-1923), poet, writer, translator ( submitted by Armenia with the support of Georgia and Russian Federation) have been authorized by the Organization.
A total of 23 anniversaries submitted from Armenia have been included in UNESCO calendar since 1998.
