Number of job seekers down in Armenia, statistics say
The number of job seekers in Armenia was reportedly 88,600 as of October 1, 2017, the number being 7.8% lower compared to the same period of 2016 and 7.5% lower against the early 2017.
Of them, 73,600 people (83,1%) are known to be unemployed, with the number reduced by 7% since October 2016, according to the State Employment Agency of Armenia.
Some 48.500 people (66.5 %) of the jobless are women. A total of 17.900 young men and 3.2 people with disabilities are reported to be unemployed. The number of the unemployed in quest for jobs for the first time is estimated at 37,800 or 42.6%, with 15,600 of them being young men.
According to the statistics, among the jobless, 12.5% have higher and postgraduate education, 18.1% are known to have secondary education, 5.5% - primary vocational education and 54.8% - general secondary education.
Among the unemployed, people aged 16-29 comprise 24.3%. Some 39.6% of the jobless are those aged 30-44, 20% are 45-54 years old people and 16.1% are individuals above 55.
In January-September 2017, some 6162 people in quest for jobs, including 3800 women, 1999 young men and 122 people with disabilities found a job in Armenia, mainly being engaged in the spheres of industry, trade and services.
