Brazil advocates for the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict – Minister Aloysio Nunes
The position of our country to the Nagorno Karabakh issue is clear, Brazil is a peaceful state and we advocate for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in line with the international law, Minister of Foreign Relations of Brazil Aloysio Nunes stated on Friday at a joint press conference with Armenia’s FM Edward Nalbandian in Yerevan.
Minister Aloysio Nunes recalled the 25 years of diplomatic relations between Armenia, Brazil that have consistently strengthened the friendly relations between the two countries forming a common stance on a range of matters also thanks to the Brazilian-Armenian community.
“A viable Armenian community of some 25 thousand people live in Brazil, who are attached to their roots but at the same time are devoted to Brazil. In our ministry, we have many Armenian collogues, while one of the biggest universities of the country, the University of San Paolo had a President Vahan Hakobyan of Armenian descent. All of these come to testify our proximity.”
In his speech, the foreign minister of Brazil next said he is well informed of the tragedy the Armenians suffered - the Armenian Genocide, adding: “I visited today the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex with great excitement to honor the memory of that terrific villainy.”
