FIDE Grand Prix 2017: Aronian draws with Jakovenko
Armenian GM Levon Aronian started with a draw at the fourth and final stage of the FIDE Grand Prix 2017 series, which kicked off in Palma de Mallorca, Spain on Thursday.
According to the National Olympic Committee, the Armenian player drew his game against Dmitry Jakovenko of Russia at the first round of the tournament played in a nine round Swiss system.
Three of the nine games of the round were victorious, with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Ernesto Inarkiev and Anish Giri outplaying their opponents.
The second rounded is scheduled for Friday. The games start at 5pm local time.
The chess battles will determine the two winners of the series – participants of the FIDE Candidates tournament.
