4000 Armenian-made tablets, mobile phones to enter the market by the end of 2017
Some 4000 Armenian-made tablets and mobile phones will enter both the domestic and the foreign market by the end of 2017, Technology & Science Dynamics Inc. (TSD) told Panorama.am.
The production volumes of tablet and mobile phones cut down in Armenia in recent months, according to the statistics released by Armenia’s National Statistical Service (NSS).
In particular, In January-September 2017, 330 mobile phones were produced in Armenia, which is a 68.4% decline compared to the indicated period of the last year, when 1045 mobile phones were produced.
The period also saw a decrease in the production volumes of Armenian tablets. In January-September 2017, 55 units of tables were produced in Armenia, cutting down by 96.5% against the same period of 2016. To note, in January-September 2016, 1,585 units of tables were produced in Armenia.
Commenting on the downward trends observed in the sphere, the company noted the decline is linked to the production phases.
“Currently we are close to complete the [production] cycle. New technologies emerge every six months, and it takes almost one year and a half to produce them,” the company detailed.
The TSD noted a total of 4000 devices (mobile phones and tablets) were produced and sold in 2016, with 1500 devices produced and sold since the beginning of 2017. Nearly 4000 more devices will hit the market by the end of this year, the source informed.
The company also touched upon the ongoing cooperation with the Armenian government, pointing to the 'One Child – One Computer' program jointly implemented with the government for three years already. Under the program, first-year school students are provided with ArmTab tablets free of charge. The program launched in 2015, with the first tablets distributed among the schools in Vayots Dzor province.
“500 more tablets will be distributed till the end of November as part of the program. A new cooperation is expected, however we cannot release all the details now,” the source added.
To note, the first Armenian Armphone smartphones have gone on sale since January 2016. Prior to that, Armenia did not produce mobile phones.
Armenian company Technology and Science Dynamics Inc./Armtab Technologies is engaged in production of ArmTab tablets, ArmPhone smartphones, as well as development of scientific and research programs.
