Armenia’s Aronian claims victory at second round of FIDE Grand Prix 2017
Armenian GM Levon Aronian claimed a victory at the fourth and final stage of the FIDE Grand Prix 2017 series underway in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
According to the National Olympic Committee, the Armenian chess star outplayed Ernesto Inarkiev of Russian at the second round of the chess tournament on Friday.
GM Aronian drew with Russian Dmitry Jakovenko at the first round of the championship played on November 16. Three of the nine games of the round were victorious, with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Ernesto Inarkiev and Anish Giri outplaying their opponents.
The tournament is played in a nine round Swiss system, with the chess battles determining the two winners of the series – participants of the FIDE Candidates tournament.
