Renowned pianist Hayk Melikyan gives virtuoso performance at Khachaturian Festival
The 5th Khachaturian International Festival on Monday hosted a piano music evening. Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia, laureate of many international competitions, world famous pianist Hayk Melikyan performed with virtuoso recital, the press service of the festival reported.
Hayk Melikyan is a pianist who is distinguished with brilliant personality, keeping the Armenian performing art up-to-date and presenting it in the best way possible.
The concert program featured Frederic Chopin’s Waltzes, Mazurkas, Polonaises and Etudes, Alexander Scriabin’s Miniatures and the suite “Petrushka” by Igor Stravinsky. Hayk Melikyan often performs the last composition. He noted that he performs the suite “Petrushka” from 17. In 1921 Stravinsky arranged it for the piano presented it to Arthur Rubinstein. Melikyan is happy to have that sophisticated work in his repertoire.
He noted that during the recital the musician is alone with his thoughts. The recital is a unique report for the artist and his audience.
Yesterday’s report was perfect. His performance conveyed the audience to a spiritual world, where the audience who perceived music in a different way enjoyed the energy of the pianist. The audience felt the sincere devotion of the pianist to high art, his love to music.
Hayk Melikyan adores the music of the 20th century and the contemporary music. He likes to discover new compositions. The pianist says that he always performs compositions by classical composers during his concerts. He especially likes to perform pieces by composers from baroque and romantic period. In addition, he always presents compositions by Armenian composers.
There is no coincidence that the 5th Khachaturian International Festival includes piano recitals. Symhonious thinking was essential nature of Aram Khachaturian: innate and harmonious. Speaking about his piano compositions, Khachaturian used to say: “When I write them, I play and feel that I have features of pianists, but I hadn’t paid attention to them and could not develop those skills.”
The 5th Khachaturian International Festival is held under the high patronage of the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. It is implemented thanks to the joint efforts of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia (General Partner of the Orchestra – VivaCell-MTS), with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the “Khachaturian” Foundation and European Foundation for Support of Culture.
