Armenia will welcome Azerbaijan’s EEU accession if commitments fulfilled – deputy FM
Being part of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) implies upholding the EEU Treaty provision according to which not only a member but also an observer state is not allowed to take any step to the detriment of a member country or the union in general, a deputy foreign minister said Thursday, commending on the possibility of Azerbaijan’s accession to the EEU.
“This implies that if Azerbaijan wants to get somehow closer to the EEU, it should avoid such steps,” Shavarsh Kocharyan told reporters following today’s Cabinet meeting.
According to the official, when speaking about the economic sector it is already enough to recall that Azerbaijan is keeping Armenia in a blockade as an evident act undermining the interests of a EEU member state.
“Thus, we will welcome Azerbaijan’s accession to the EEU or its observer status in case the country fulfils the commitments set for both an observer and a member state. And this implies lifting the blockade, refraining from hostile activities against Armenia and putting an end to Armenophobia,” he highlighted.
