Three killed after explosion causes building to collapse in southern Tel Aviv
At least three people were killed and four others were wounded on Monday night after an explosion rocked the city of Jaffa, south of Tel Aviv, Israel.
Emergency responders, including those from the Home Front Command, continue to search for people trapped under the rubble at the site of the blast, a hardware store on Yefet Street, one of the city's main roads, Haaretz reported.
The blast, which caused a fire, eventually brought down the one-story building. Two of those wounded were driving by the building when the blast occured, which caused their vehicle to overturn. Police are investigating whether gas cylinders were involved in the explosion.
The deceased were recovered by police after more than two hours of rescue efforts and the wounded were evacuated Wolfson Medical Center in Holon for treatment. Due to confusion among the various rescue organizations, conflicting reports were received during the night regarding the amount of fatalities.
Police say the incident was most likely not a criminal event, though damage is significant and the investigation has only just begun.
