The State National Academic Choir of Armenia celebrates the 80th anniversary of creation
A jubilee concert dedicated to the establishment of the State National Academic Choir of Armenia will take place on Dec 5 at the A. Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre.
“It is a pride for everyone to have such a Choir. We should state with immense pride that we have an 80-year-old Academic Choir with its glorious Artistic Director Hovhannes Chekijian,” Armenia’s Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan gave a press conference on Monday ahead of the concert.
Maestro Chekijian, in turn, spoke of the program of the upcoming concert, suggesting unique performance is expected for the audience.
“I do not want to disclose all the details to surprise the people. This year is remarkable for the Choir. Over the past 67 years the Choir led by me performed 866 concerts in different countries throughout the world and sung in 27 languages,” Chekijyan said, adding the secret to the Choir secret has perhaps been the healthy and creative atmosphere preserved in the Choir.
To remind, the State National Academic Choir of Armenia was established in 1937.
Accomplishments of the Choir are particularly impressive in the performance and dissemination of the Armenian spiritual music, pieces for choir by Komitas, Makar Ekmalian, Christorpher Kara-Murza, Armen Tigranian, Aram Khatchaturian, Arno Babajanian, and Alexander Haroutunian.
It is no accident that on the eve of its 75th anniversary and in recognition of its glorious path, the Choir was awarded the honorary title of the National Choir.
