G7 ambassadors in Ukraine closely follow situation around Saakashvili
The ambassadors of the G7 countries to Ukraine expect that an investigation into the leader of the Movement of New Forces Party, ex-head of Odesa Regional State Administration, former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili will be conducted speedily and in compliance with law, Interfax agency reported.
"We are aware that Mr. Saakashvili was detained and that protests are ongoing. We are following developments closely," the ambassadors said in a statement posted on the website of the Italian embassy in Ukraine.
The diplomats called on all "to fully respect and support the constitutional and legal order of Ukraine, adhere to the rights and responsibilities of peaceful protest, and refrain from attempts at destabilization."
"We also expect that any investigation will be conducted expeditiously and in accordance with Ukraine's legal obligations," the statement reads, as quoted by the source .
