President attends concert on Armenia National Academic Choir 80th anniversary
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Mrs. Rita Sargsyan attended on Tuesday a concert dedicated to Armenia National Academic Choir’s 80th anniversary, which was held at the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater after A. Spendiaryan.
As the press department at the President’s Office reported, on the occasion of the jubilee, President of Armenia extended congratulations and awarded a high State award and titles to Choir members for valuable contribution to art.
“I wish to thank them and their predecessors for 80-years-long dedicated service to our people. I would like to thank Maestro Chekidjian and compliment him because he has been managing this harmonious team with such enthusiasm and love for 56 years now,” President said in his con gratulatory message.
To remind, the State National Academic Choir of Armenia was established in 1937.
Accomplishments of the Choir are particularly impressive in the performance and dissemination of the Armenian spiritual music, pieces for choir by Komitas, Makar Ekmalian, Christorpher Kara-Murza, Armen Tigranian, Aram Khatchaturian, Arno Babajanian, and Alexander Haroutunian.
In 2012, on the eve of its 75th anniversary and in recognition of its glorious path, the Choir was awarded the honorary title of the National Choir.
