Parliamentary system of government big challenge for Armenian National Assembly – German ambassador
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia Mathias Kisler is glad that Armenia is hosting a regular NATO Week.
As the envoy said at the launch of the NATO Week in Armenia on Wednesday, the German Embassy assumed the duties as a NATO Contact Point Embassy in 2015, and he is hopeful the diplomatic mission will manage to fulfil this duty at least until the end of 2018.
Touching upon Armenia’s transition to the parliamentary system of government, Mr. Kisler noted the switch is a big challenge for many institutions and especially for the National Assembly and the Armenian lawmakers.
“We are ready to offer expert services to share our experience with Armenia in exercising parliamentary oversight. This is why we have invited a top German Defense Ministry official to Armenia as part of the one-week program to take part in the parliamentary event on the topic,” the ambassador said.
Touching upon the activities of the Armenia-NATO Trust Fund, the German official stressed the introduction of arms control instruments is of great importance for Germany.
“Still one year ago Germany announced that it is ready to assume the responsibilities of the Trust Fund. The National Assembly ratified the Trust Fund agreement a few days ago and it will be possible to implement it in a few weeks,” the ambassador said.
Mr. Mathias Kisler reminded the Armenian troops serve in Afghanistan under German command.
