Lawmaker: We are obliged to jointly fight against Turkish denialism
“Lithuania is among the countries that have recognized the Armenian Genocide. We hope that the parliaments of other Baltic states will follow the example of Lithuania,” Vice Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, the Head of the Armenia-Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia Friendship Group, Eduard Sharmazanov said at a meeting with the members of Lithuania-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group on Wednesday on the sidelines of his working visit to the country.
The Armenian official noted next year marks the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by the UN General Assembly, adding the genocide is the greatest crime committed against humanity, which has no statute of limitation, the parliament’s press service said.
“I will note with regret that today’s Turkish authorities pursue a denial policy. The denialism is almost equal to committing genocide. We, the parliamentarians, are obliged to be united in fighting for condemnation of genocides, as well as against the Turkish denialism,” Eduard Sharmazanov stated.
