Prime minister: Meghri FEZ will create good conditions for business development
The Free Economic Zone (FEZ) launched on Friday in the southern Armenian town of Meghri (Syunik region) bordering Iran, with Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan attending the event.
The Armenian premier gave his strong assurances the free economic zone opens up new opportunities for developing the business given the country’s opportunities, stressing the government has quite serious intentions regarding the Meghri FEZ, the government’s press service reported.
“We are convinced the conditions to be crated at the Meghri FEZ and the opportunities available to our country, I mean the trade regimes we have with the EEU, the EU, neighbouring Iran and other countries create very good opportunities for business development,” Karapetyan said, unveiling plans to boost Armenia-Iran border trade and tourism in the economic zone.
As a result of the FEZ’s activities it is planned to involve 50-70 operating companies in coming years for attracting US $100-$130 million worth investments, creating over 1500 new jobs and exporting US $250 million worth goods and services.
