Yerevan hosts 2nd European Business Association Summit
The 2nd Summit of the European Business Association (EBA) Armenia was held on Friday in Yerevan in attendance of the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Armenia’s First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments, Garegin Melkonyan, as well as representatives of embassies and international organizations.
The EBA (Armenia) was founded in October, 2015 under the support of the EU Delegation in Armenia. The main objective of EBA is to support representatives of European Business Community in Armenia and facilitate the integration and cooperation between Armenia and the European Union as well as to improve business environment, encourage foreign investments and improve corresponding legislative framework.
Ambassador Piotr Świtalski pointed to the enormous work done by the association over the past two years, highlighting the organization’s proposals aimed at improving the business environment in Armenia.
“We hope that these reforms will soon yield their results,” the EU envoy said.
Armenia’s First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments, Garegin Melkonyan in his turn noted large-scale work needs to be done after the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhances Partnership Agreement (CEPA) enters into force, highlighting the European Business Association can assist Armenia in this issue.
According to him, the new agreement opens a new page in the Armenia-EU relations, functioning as a legal and contractual basis for the development of the bilateral relations over the next ten years and beyond. Mr. Melkonyan also noted Armenia can make reforms in different sectors using the European experience.
