Impossible to shoot with one hand, and negotiate with the other – Serzh Sargsyan
“There have been no talks over the elements of the Nagorno Karabakh settlement, and considering the developments occurred over the past two year it seems natural,” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated at an interview on Thursday to Armenia TV Channel.
“Over the past two years we held meetings in Vienna, St. Petersburg and reached certain agreements, and today the process goes in two directions. The first is the idea of reducing the escalation, establishing investigation mechanisms to create the atmosphere of mutual trust,” President Sargsyan noted, adding only after that it would be feasible to look into the elements of a document.
“As I noted on one occasion, it is impossible to shoot with one hand, and negotiate with the other in order to find a solution. Talks do not tolerate shooting. It is impossible to reach an agreement under such conditions. Shooting always obstructs, human losses are always painful and introduce nervous atmosphere into the negotiations. Any agreement implies weighting on each word, each element in a calm atmosphere,” Sargsyan added.
In the President’s words. the prospects of the conflict settlement are first of all conditioned with the quietness across the Line of Contact and the possibility of creating a mutual trust to be continuously nurtured by implementation of the reached agreements.
