Erdogan predicts future of Muslims after Trump’s Jerusalem move
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed concern that after the loss of Jerusalem, Muslims could also lose Mecca and Medina, Lenta.ru reported citing the NTV channel.
“If we lose Jerusalem we won’t be able to protect Medina. If we lose Medina, we will lose Mecca and Kaaba,” Erdogan said.
US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital on December 6 and announced plans to relocate the US Embassy there, a move that heightened tensions in the region and elsewhere.
Notably, Jerusalem is officially declared as the Israeli capital in the country, while Palestinians, and many in the international community, continue to see East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
