Armenia-EU agreement marks a step forward for both sides – German MP
The agreement signed between Armenia and the European Union marked a step forward for both sides, German Bundestag lawmaker Albert Weiler, Chairman of the German-Armenian Forum, said on Monday.
“Armenia is observed as a positive country by Germany, especially after the recognition of the Armenian Genocide last year. I think the relations between the two countries have further intensified in recent years,” the German MP said at a discussion organized at the joint initiative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and the Armenian parliamentary standing committee on foreign affairs.
In Albert Weiler’s words, the EU expects from Armenia a stable and democratic government.
“We will assist all the spheres within our powers, particularly focusing on the education field, where we can achieve more goals,” the German lawmaker said.
Asked what the EU thinks about Armenia serving as a bridge between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union, Albert Weiler said: “I think the Europeans consider it a very reasonable judgement, and yes, we will welcome when the bilateral cooperation succeeds since through it we will be able to reach the goal that Armenia will also serve as a bridge between those two unions.”
