Armenia shows that it is able to make its own decisions, European official says
The Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between Armenia and the European Union comes to show that Armenia, a EEU member, takes a completely new step establishing new relations with the EU, Sajjad Karim, the Co-Chair of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC), said today addressing the 17th session of the EU-Armenia PCC.
“With this [step] Armenia snows that it is able to make its own decision as a sovereign state with a clearly dawn up principles of its future ambitions,” the official noted.
According to Mr. Karim, there is some disinformation among the Armenian society over the EU’s role.
“It does not help to better understand and perceive the EU among the Armenian citizens. We will do our best to explain our role. We hope the Armenian authorities will do the same,” he added.
Reflecting on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process, the European official gave his strong assurances the European Parliament (EP) is ready to do everything possible to reach a proper settlement of the conflict.
In regard to Azerbaijan blacklisting individuals who visit Artsakh, Sajjad Karim stated the MEPs are free to carry out their parliamentary activities in any country.
“When MEPs pay a visit to Artsakh, they should clarify their status. If they say that they visit on behalf of the EP rather than as an individual lawmaker it can cause unhealthy confusion,” he said.
