The number of foreign tourists visiting Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) comprised 23,000 in January-October of the current year, a 41 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
Head of the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth Affairs and Tourism, Artak Grigoryan, told Artsakhpress that tourists mainly visit Artsakh to familiarize themselves with the country, since they are greatly interested in Artsakh’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
Currently Karabakh has 8 tourist operators; licensed guides, who regularly attend courses for tour guides. 50 hotels currently operate in the country.
Speaking about tourist homes Artak Grigoryan said that in 2018, in particular in rural communities, a new development program is envisaged. It will provide retraining programs and respective literature for all those who want to engage in tourism industry.
As to the “Tourist Friends” system, Artak Grigoryan said that it will enable them to make the stay of tourists more comfortable. Retrained specialists with basic knowledge of tourism will work in the system.
“In 2018, one of our occupations will be the creation of a tourist product, its development and spread among potential tourists and companies. The tourist product will be both cultural and adventurous in nature,” Artak Grigoryan concluded.
